Weigh In: Victory on Health Care Reform, but a Partial One

After what’s been called the most significant social legislation in 50 years, Women’s Media Center continues the fight to protect reproductive rights. Since the Stupak Amendment passed the House in November, we've been fighting to protect reproductive rights with our Not Under the Bus campaign. We’ve also pushed out women health care experts through our SheSource database, ensuring that women's voices are included and amplified in today’s national discussion. Reform at the cost of women's health must not be confused with complete progress.

As health care reform became law, WMC founder and board member Gloria Steinem expressed her outrage: “It’s healthy to celebrate partial victories, but fatal to pretend they’re complete. Health Care Reform will save health and lives, but its price was affirming and extending the control of women’s bodies by church and state." As we acknowledge and laude this historic legislation, we share Gloria's frustration over the pawning of reproductive rights. Funnel your outrage into action -- tell us what you think!
